Terms of Use
These terms are between you and Dogs in Boots, LLC (“we”, “us”), the maker of Gemlo. Gemlo is licensed to you under Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”), at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. The terms below add to it; if they conflict, the Standard EULA wins. By using Gemlo, you agree to both, and Gemlo’s subscription screen says so too: by starting your free trial or buying Gemlo Pro, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
In short
- Gemlo is free to use, with 10 scans a day. Your whole collection, binders, sets and CSV export are always free. Gemlo Pro is optional.
- Gemlo Pro Yearly and Monthly renew automatically. To stop one, cancel in your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before it renews. Lifetime is paid once.
- Prices are estimates from Cardmarket and JustTCG, shown with their source and date. They aren’t offers, appraisals or financial advice.
- Gemlo isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by the companies behind the card games it reads. Card names and images belong to them.
1. Gemlo Pro
Gemlo is free to download. Scanning (10 cards a day), adding cards by search or from a set, your collection with its binders and sets, prices, 7 days of value history, and CSV import and export are free. Gemlo Pro is optional and adds:
- unlimited scans;
- your collection’s whole value history, and each card’s price history beyond 7 days.
The subscription screen in Gemlo shows what Gemlo Pro includes and what it costs before you buy.
Plans and prices
- Gemlo Pro Yearly: US$39.99 a year, starting with a 7-day free trial if you’re eligible.
- Gemlo Pro Monthly: US$7.99 a month, without a free trial.
- Gemlo Pro Lifetime: US$99.99, paid once. It isn’t a subscription and doesn’t renew.
Outside the United States, the App Store shows the price in your currency before you buy. Taxes may apply.
Payment and automatic renewal
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm your purchase or, with a free trial, when the trial ends.
- Yearly and Monthly renew automatically for the same length of time, at the then-current price, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- If the price goes up, Apple tells you before it applies and, where required, asks you to agree.
Free trial
The yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, as the App Store decides; it’s the only plan with a trial. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, Apple charges the yearly price and your subscription begins. If you allow notifications, Gemlo reminds you two days before the trial ends, and Settings › Subscription shows the day it ends.
Cancelling
- Cancel anytime in your iPhone’s Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Gemlo, or in Gemlo under Settings › Subscription › Manage subscription.
- To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before your trial ends or your subscription renews. After you cancel a paid subscription, Gemlo Pro stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Deleting Gemlo, or your Gemlo account, doesn’t cancel your subscription.
- If you buy Lifetime while you have a subscription, the subscription doesn’t stop by itself: cancel it as above.
Lifetime
Lifetime gives you Gemlo Pro for as long as we offer Gemlo, not for your lifetime or ours. It stays with the Apple Account you bought it with: Restore purchases brings it back on another iPhone, or after you delete your Gemlo account.
Refunds
Apple processes App Store payments and refunds: you can ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. This doesn’t limit your rights under consumer law. If Gemlo Pro has a major problem, you may be entitled to a refund or another remedy where you live: email gemlo@nookpages.com and we’ll help.
Restoring and Family Sharing
To use Gemlo Pro on more than one iPhone, sign in to the same Gemlo account on each. If Pro isn’t showing, open Settings › Subscription › Restore purchases while signed in to the Apple Account you paid with. Restoring on an iPhone that isn’t signed in to that Gemlo account moves Gemlo Pro to it, away from your other iPhone. Gemlo Pro isn’t shared through Family Sharing.
2. Free scans
- Without Pro, Gemlo identifies up to 10 cards a day by scanning. A new day starts at midnight on your iPhone.
- A scan counts when Gemlo names a card and you move on to the next one, or when you confirm a card Gemlo checked online. Fixing a scan, picking from the closest matches or between look-alike prints, searching, adding from a set, importing a file and the scan while you set up Gemlo are free.
- When you’ve used the day’s free scans, the camera pauses until midnight; you can still search and add cards from a set.
- The count is kept on your iPhone, so reinstalling Gemlo or changing accounts doesn’t reset it.
- We may change the number of free scans. Your collection stays free to keep, see and export.
3. Identifying cards
- Gemlo names a card only when the number and the name it reads both match the same card in its list. Otherwise it shows the closest matches, or asks which print you have. It can still be wrong: check the card, its set and its print before you buy, sell or trade.
- Checking a card online is optional. Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, reads the photo of the card; Gemlo matches what it read against its own list, and you confirm it. The AI never picks a card or a price on its own. Online reads have a daily limit far above everyday use, to prevent abuse, and we may pause them while we fix a problem. Our Privacy Policy says what is sent.
- Gemlo reads cards printed in English and Japanese. A card from a brand-new set may not be in Gemlo’s card list until an update adds it.
4. Prices
- Euro prices come from Cardmarket’s daily price guide: its trend price for a print or, without one, its 30-day average. US prices come from JustTCG, by condition. Gemlo shows one or the other, with its source and the day it’s from, and you choose which in Settings.
- Prices are estimates of what cards have recently sold or been listed for. They can be out of date, missing or wrong, and a card’s condition, edition or grade can change its value a lot. Gemlo doesn’t price graded cards yet.
- Your collection’s value is the sum of these estimates, and its history is worked out from the prices we’ve recorded each day.
- Prices aren’t offers to buy or sell, appraisals, or financial or investment advice. Don’t rely on them alone to buy, sell, insure or trade a card.
- Gemlo never asks AI for a price. We may stop showing a source if it ends or its terms change.
5. Card data and credits
- Card names, numbers, sets and the card list come from TCGdex, under the MIT license.
- Euro prices come from Cardmarket’s public price guide; US prices from JustTCG, under our licence, shown in the app only and never in exports.
- Card pictures are our own copies of TCGdex’s and the Pokémon TCG API’s, shown only to identify each card.
- Gemlo’s headings use Bricolage Grotesque, under the SIL Open Font License.
- Apart from these, Gemlo’s content and software are for your personal, non-commercial use.
6. Not affiliated
Gemlo is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Nintendo, Creatures, GAME FREAK or The Pokémon Company, or by the publisher of any other card game. Card names, images, set symbols and other marks belong to their owners and are used only to identify cards. Gemlo isn’t affiliated with Cardmarket, JustTCG, TCGdex, the Pokémon TCG API, TCGplayer or Collectr either; some of them are named only to say where data comes from or which files Gemlo can import.
If you own the rights to something Gemlo shows and want it removed, email gemlo@nookpages.com with what it is and where it appears, and we’ll remove it.
7. Your account and your collection
- Gemlo creates an account for you automatically, without your name or email, and saves your collection to it from your first card. Signing in with Apple or email lets you get it back on another iPhone; keep that Apple Account or email account secure.
- What you add (your notes, binder names, what you paid) is yours. You give us only the permission we need to store it, sync it and show it to you.
- You can export your collection as a CSV file at any time, and delete your account in Settings › Delete account. Our Privacy Policy explains what that deletes.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or harms Gemlo or other people.
8. Using Gemlo fairly
Please don’t use automated tools to access Gemlo or its servers, copy its card list or prices in bulk or resell them, try to get around the free scans, limits, the free trial or the subscription (for example, with many accounts), interfere with Gemlo’s servers, or use Gemlo to break the law or to harm, harass or deceive anyone.
9. Changes
Gemlo will change over time: we may add, change or remove features, card games or price sources, or pause one while we fix a problem. If a change reduces what Gemlo Pro includes, it takes effect at your next renewal, never in the middle of a period you’ve paid for, and we’ll tell you in Gemlo before then. We may also update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant, we’ll let you know in Gemlo or on this page before it takes effect. If you keep using Gemlo after that, the new terms apply.
10. Your rights as a consumer
The Standard EULA’s disclaimers and limits of liability apply to Gemlo to the extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer laws that can’t be excluded, such as those of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. The Spanish and Japanese pages summarize these terms; if they differ, this English version applies, unless your local law says otherwise.
